Last Friday 16th March at QUT, students have gathered up for the Windows Vista/Office and ImagineCup 2007 Campus Launch Event. Over 230 students came to see the WOW of Windows Vista, Office 2007 system, and Imagine Cup 2007.

Marty Gnanananthan and Charles Sterling have superbly presented and have motivated the entire audience to upgrade to Vista and Office 2007. As most of the audience came from the Faculty of IT, the agenda covered:

  • Windows Vista (Marty & Charles)
  • Office 2007 Ultimate and itsnotcheating promo (Charles & Marty)
  • Expression & WPF (Charles)
  • ImagineCup 2007 (Griffith)

Many thanks to the Microsoft DPE team (particularly Marty, Charles, and Bernard Oh) for the support and resources; Jason Weiss from QUT, to help in booking the venue. Also ITSA (IT Student Association) for helping distributing Vista DVDs.

Sidebar Gadget, first click when upgraded to Vista?

In Windows 98, 2000, and XP my first mouse click intuition after upgraded OS was surely on the Start button, appart from the welcome startup page. With Vista, alot of users would have clicked on the sidebar gadget before of the Start button, taking over 15mins to find what cool gadgets to add to the sidebar. How long did you take (or waste) to play with gadgets 🙂 I must admit I play with them on regular basis; that is, playing with settings, looking for new ones, and start creating my own.

Alright gadgets are gadgets; they can add a “cool” factor. Like all small apps and toolkits, some can be useful and others very useless. Can gadgets prove useful for work?
